Worship at Adi Sankara Nilayam...

Adi Sankara’s ‘Vidyarambha’ was performed in this sacred place. Vidyarambha or aksharabhyasa is the ritual where in the young child of 2 or 3 years old is initiated into the alphabet study. A Sarasvati puja is performed in the morning. The Guru then initiates the child by making him or her write the sacred syllable ‘om’ and the mantra ‘hari sri ganapataye namaha’ in a plate of rice.


	The Guru also writes ‘om’ on the tongue of the child with a Tulasi twig or a golden ring. Adi Sankara Nilayam provides a rare opportunity to parents to have their child’s vidyarambha performed at this very place where Adi Sankara’s vidyarambha was performed. This function is usually conducted on the Vijayadasami day which follows Navratri every year in the month of October. You may also choose other convenient auspicious days for performing the same.
